I’m excited to be attending Friday’s Lunch & Learn Discussion. Looking forward to meeting all of you, and super-excited to be able to share our company’s Facebook application for high school achievements/college admissions!

The topics above are very timely.

Don’t know if we agree with Mr. Zuckerberg’s intention of making the Facebook platform available to younger children – this would leave a gaping hole for cyber bullying (where younger children just do not understand the ramifications!).

We have 3 children, all of whom are social media savvy, all of whom have Facebook accounts – and all of whom waited until they were 14 to open these accounts.

We monitor their accounts by insisting they “friend us”, and although this is seen by some parents as being overly strict, we have had instances where we were glad we were available, and knowledgeable – and lent our children assistance. (Sure – we know our children can open up dummy accounts, email addresses, etc. – but so far, our children haven’t given us any reason to distrust them!)

As far as online usage goes, our children spend most of their online time on Facebook, chatting (and offline texting) – and NOT email. I can hardly get my children to open an email! Email seems to be a dead medium among Middle School and High School aged children, except for when it’s absolutely necessary!

Agreed Ron. There are so many different sides of the story, and somewhere in the middle, is the truth, as the saying goes.

I see a lot of strong opinions swirling around, but not so much objective listening or an attempt to understand the situation from another perspective.

I wonder if this is the impression that others have of people who live in New Jersey…

I read every one of those articles. There’s a clear case of misunderstanding on the part of nearly everyone involved. You might think that this “Reputation Doctor” could’ve helped everyone get straightened out. But no – his strategy is to repeat what the store said initially, ignore any opposing opinion, and remain unavailable for comment to the media. THAT guy didn’t impress me one bit.

Great piece – thank you! I agree – I just don’t see a generational divide. I do see a technological divide and I see a wildly segmented audience because of the multiplicity of media available. And I think the wave analogy is a good one because if one format comes crashing down, we simply paddle out to catch the next one.
